Local Carnival

A spectacular journey it was today. Bošnjaci, a village in the eastern part of the Slavonia region, well it's not small at all. My idea was to hang there for a coffee and pursue to the nearby nature park of Virovi to take some pictures of the frozen land. But out of nowhere some 40 and more horse riders came through the main street heading to a point a few hundred meters down. I naturally followed and took some photos of the happening which could be seen in this Gallery, it came out this was a traditional Carnival horse ride. They told me that locals have arranged break-points or rest-points along their path so they started at noon to go on riding the whole afternoon and visit many households as well as agro-tourism locations in the surroundings.
Wherever they stopped, there was traditional food and drinks and people singing, the horsemen wore uniforms of the past times. This is a tradition since the times of the Turks breach in the area, the part of the military zone called "vojna krajina" which was a stronghold line against the invaders. As naturally very proud people Croats keep on with the preserving of this heritage. Every guest and visitor is more then welcome and offered food and drinks as well as a horse ride. I was surprised by the number of participants.
Points are arranged in a 10 km radius to end in a natural park where is the main party, but this is taking place only in the evening so i have to catch'em up once again. Here the people live in harmony with nature beside all the modern facilities, they say, a long walk in the forest, a horse ride, a trip by the lake cannot be changed by some artificial pleasures. So my simple conclusion is, come over here take a share in this wonderful unspoiled nature and friendly people. Revitalize and reconnect with your true nature of the self.
